This children’s pentatonic lyre is a beautiful musical string instrument that produces a clear, bright and calming sound. With seven strings it is an ideal introduction to playing a musical instrument for children. This traditional musical instrument is made from European Maple wood and includes a tuning key and instructions.
This lyre is designed to be played in two different positions, thanks to its shell-like shape with large central opening – hold it resting in your lap with the left hand and played with the right, or it can be held in the lap resting between the knees and played with both hands, like a traditional harp. An instrument much loved in ancient Celtic cultures and Waldorf Steiner schools for its harmonious and therapeutic qualities. This lyre has the 7 note strings in pentatonic scale D, E, G, A, B, D, E, made from European Maple wood to give a full, warm, heavenly sound. Use it to create a calming atmosphere during storytelling and plays. The pentatonic scale is based on 5 notes, which can be played in any combination and still produce a harmonious melody and is a perfect introduction to music as it takes away the frustration of wrong notes and inharmonious sounds.
